Stomp Footcare
On Shopify, Stomp Footcare runs a foot care store for athletes and active lifestyles. Its products are made to help people move, perform and recover. The range includes foot creams, a scrub, a cleanser, a foot spray, a callus remover, a deodorizer, a foot soak, a foot mask and nail care. On the homepage, a game plan lays out pre-game, half-time and post-game steps. Badges on the site mark the products as made in the USA, PETA certified and cruelty free. A blog on foot recovery and everyday care sits alongside the shop.
- CMS: Shopify
- Theme: Nova, extended with custom Liquid sections, snippets and JavaScript
- Integrations: Judge.me product and store reviews
- Live site: stompfootcare.com
Already live on the Nova theme, Stomp Footcare’s Shopify store stayed on it for this work. The team kept editing it in Shopify’s theme editor, so any custom work we added had to sit beside their changes. If we had reworked the theme and pushed our copy over theirs, we would have wiped out their latest edits.
The brief was to open the homepage with the brand itself. Reviews on the site ran through Judge.me’s carousel block. That block shows no more than 30 reviews, and Shopify rejects any higher setting. So any review past that point never appeared.
What we did:
Stomp Footcare’s Shopify foot care store for athletes gained a scroll logo reveal and review cards of our own that show every review. To keep the team’s edits safe, most of our code sits in files of our own. We touched the theme’s original files only where a feature needed a hook. Before each update, we also compared the live theme with the last one we sent, so their edits always came first.
A logo that flies into the header
The logo now starts out big in the centre of the video banner. Scroll down and it shrinks as it travels up into the sticky header. The header’s own logo stays hidden until it arrives. Scroll back to the top and the logo returns to the banner. We added all this to their existing video banner section as a setting. The team can turn it on and choose the starting size in the theme editor. On devices set to reduce motion, the logo simply stays still in the banner.
Every review on the foot care store, not just 30
Instead of fighting that limit, we swapped the carousel for our own review cards on the homepage and the product pages. The theme builds the cards from the review data the app already keeps in Shopify. Clicking a card opens a popup with the full review, any photos or video, and the store’s reply.
Store reviews count too. The rating, the review count and the star bars in the review sections now include them. Shoppers see product and store reviews side by side. We gave the Write a review link our own styling. It still opens the app’s own form, so new reviews come in exactly as before.
Fixes across the store
We also cleared a few smaller issues. A divider sat off centre on iPhones, because Safari lays it out differently from Chrome. We put it back in the middle. The homepage had no main heading at all. We gave its section a heading level setting, so the page now has a proper h1. We then wrote alt text for every one of the 97 images in the store. That helps people using screen readers and gives search engines a description of each image.
All of this is running on the live store today. For a full custom theme rather than new features on an existing one, see the custom Shopify theme and rebrand we built for Grassias.
